PALCO MARKETING - ART DIRECTION & CREATIVE LEADERSHIP
Project Insight
Inheriting a visual brand that had affectionately become called "the meat," packaging backgrounds that looked like ground beef, a complete rebrand was overdue. The job of art direction was to find a visual language that made the brand's story land, and then build a system around it that a team could execute consistently. From trade show booths to complete catalog builds to product packaging, the work was always in service of a bigger brand idea.
Opportunity
Palco Marketing needed a creative leader who could modernize a dated brand without alienating an owner who was deeply resistant to change. At the same time, a new partnership with Cybergun brought over 100 airsoft packages into the mix, each requiring a rebrand that met strict manufacturer brand standards for names like Colt, SIG Sauer, and Beretta. The scope was significant, the politics were real, and the standards were non-negotiable.
Approach
The rebrand required patience and strategy in equal measure. The company’s resistance to change meant that pushing too far, too fast would kill momentum. I developed a baby steps approach, presenting concepts that moved the brand meaningfully forward, then pulling back just enough to get buy-in. Each project built on the last, gradually replacing the meat background aesthetic with a modern, stylized system built around the FIREPOWER brand name and intentional negative space. Over time the brand caught up to where it needed to be.
The Cybergun merger introduced a separate creative challenge. More than 100 airsoft packages needed to be redesigned under licensed manufacturer identities including Colt, SIG Sauer, Beretta and many others. Each brand came with its own standards and requirements, and every package had to be verified against those guidelines before going to production. I managed the full process, ensuring creative quality and brand compliance across the entire line.

A beautiful, New Look
Every brand has a turning point where it either grows into what it could be or stays stuck in what it was. At Palco, that turning point was earned one project at a time. The shift from the meat background to a clean, typographic system built around the FIREPOWER name was not just a design upgrade. It was a change in how the brand saw itself. Getting there required reading the room, knowing when to push and when to pull back, and keeping the creative vision intact through every compromise. That is art direction in the real world.
